Foreword

Judge Robert P. Jones was the driving force behind the creation of this manual, and I would like to thank him for his guidance and for giving me the opportunity to act as editor. The purpose of this manual is to provide summaries of Oregon appellate decisions in medical malpractice cases as a quick reference. The summaries are fairly brief and are not meant to be a substitute for actually reading the cases, but are a good place to start your research on issues in medical malpractice actions.

Judge Jones and I would like to thank each of the co-authors for their hard work on this volunteer effort. Each submitted summaries of approximately ten cases. The authors were selected from both the plaintiffs bar and the defense bar as young lawyers who are practicing in the medical malpractice area. We hope that this experience was a positive learning opportunity for all.
